This is a retrospective selection of scenes from the 46-year-long history of the Jioķ Srnec“ Black Theatre. To enable the viewers in Bohemia to learn the original source of Black Theatre inspiration dated back to 1961, we present a retrospective selection of scenes from various original performance of Black Theatre, which have won appreciation in many countries of the World. This special performance, unique combination of living dancing objects and symbols - together with a performance of dancers and mimic actors, won special and long applauding when having been performed in midnight performance in the Royal Theatre in Edinburg in 1962.
This performance is devoted to Jan Casper Deburau, the greatest and immortal Pierot from the Funambules Theatre, who was born in Bohemia in 1796. His art is fantastic and at the same time very realistic and true, providing an inspiration, which has been kept vivid and living even two hundred years after his death. This is the latest performance of the Black Theatre of Jioķ Srnec - first performance is scheduled to April 19th, 2000.
Performance "Ahasver - Legends of Magical Prague" was incorporated into the project PRAGUE 2000 - European City of Culture. Ahasver - "eternal walker" accompanies a viewer along the ancient Prague in the time of Rodolph II and experiences the legends about Faust“s House, Mysterious Bridegroom, Rodolph II and his royal court as well as a story of Rabbi Yehud Loewi and his achievements - creation of Stone of Wisdom and Golem, and finally he draws a viewer into story about Master Hanu¹ and Prague Horologe. This audio-visual presentation - combination of feature film and a technique of black theatre - won great success in international festival in Santadero in Spain. This success was even more remarkable as there was a wide competition of performances, including such stars as Placido Domingo, Miklail Barishnikov and Julio Boca.
Vaudeville in the style of Art Nouveau, consisting of ten scenes. Amor“s arrow hits the heart of the inventor, who wishes to fly without any power drive. He falls to love with the girl also hit by Amor“s arrow, but he denies love, because he devotes all his powers to his mission - invention of flying velocipede. It takes very long before he finally understands that the only power which can overcome gravity is love. Everything takes place behind a boundary of visibility - that mysterious fantastic world providing wide inspiration to poets and artists of any profession forms also a source of inspiration to the Black theatre. Ideal performance for the whole family.
Performance inspired by the L. Caroll“s book of the same name - the stage of Black Theatre provides ideal conditions for creation of the fairy world enhancing viewer“s fantasy. The girl Alice wanders through her dream and children world - our intention is to bring the viewers back to this fantastic world regardless to their age. This performance won a great success in London in 1989, and it has been kept in repertoire since that time.
Black Theatre adaptation taking topic from J.M. Barrie“s story. Peter Pan accompanies three children from the Darlings“ family in adventures in Land-Non-Land. Black Theatre - each of the actors, dancers and the whole ensemble presenting this performance, seems to take a role of Peter Pan himself - and knows a way to Land-Non-Land. First performance took place in London in 1993.

A man, who can tell men“s fortune from lines in hand, is coming to them. A cruel grotesque story follows. Fortune-teller says: "Your fortune is bad! But fortune is also blind and cannot find the lines in your hands, if you wear my gloves in the colour of hope. Put your fortune to my hands"
